Workshop sessions

This half-day workshop will comprise of:

More than Movement: Aboriginal Culture, Story and Protocol in Dance

• This session explores respectful ways to build and sustain Aboriginal dance ensembles with Community guidance and how to embed cultural values and protocols in choreography, costume, and performance.

Curriculum Workshop

• This session includes unpacking the dance syllabus and planning effective teaching and learning strategies.

Practical Composition Workshop

• Unpacking the dance syllabus to guide choreographic practice
• Analysis of successful performance items
• Discussion of the use of the elements of production to enhance performance
• Practical activities unlocking creative approaches to choreography, and
• Planning effective teaching and learning strategies

Tickets

Audience tickets to the showcase must be purchased through Trybooking. Tickets will go on sale Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 11:00 am.

• Child (2–17 years old or K–12): $12.00
• Pensioner/concession or student: $18.00
• Adult: $22.00

Ticket prices include GST. Booking and transaction fees may apply.

For the auditions, students do not need to prepare any choreography – they will be taught sequences on the day as part of the audition process.

Students auditioning will need to:

• wear appropriate dance/activewear (no midriffs)
• wear sneakers, as well as bring a pair of jazz shoes (if they already own them – students do not need to purchase jazz shoes for the auditions)
• have their hair tied back or styled out of their face
• bring a water bottle, a sweat towel (optional), snacks and lunch – students will not be released to purchase lunch from local shops
• declare any current injuries, if applicable, on arrival at the auditions.

Venue for Sun 7 Mar 2027 rehearsal TBC

• All schools involved in massed dance must attend a full day preliminary rehearsal in the weeks prior to Pulse Alive 2027.
• As part of the nomination process, schools will be able to preference which cast they are part of and, therefore, which rehearsal they attend.
• Confirmed rehearsal dates will be communicated to schools on acceptance into the show in early Term 4.
• Each school will only be required to participate in one preliminary rehearsal per category they have applied for. 
• Schools are expected to attend their preliminary rehearsal in person.  
• Schools will be required to attend their preliminary rehearsal for the full day. Transport arrangements must be made to ensure schools arrive before the start of the rehearsal and are able to stay all the way through until the end of the rehearsal.
• Provision will be made for schools more than 2 hours travel time from Sydney Olympic Park participating in massed dance to attend preliminary rehearsals virtually if required.
