Art Matters Penrith
Art Matters workshops provide opportunities for students in Years 5 to 8 to develop visual art making skills through participating in intensive workshops, encompassing:
- Validation of the importance of visual arts, including as an intra and interpersonal expression
- Understanding of subject matters explored in artmaking, especially art as a tool to communicate contemporary issues
- Experimentation with a variety of artmaking substances.
The two-day workshops will be delivered in collaboration with a local artist and Penrith Regional Art Gallery, utilising art education experts from the gallery and the Department of Education. Workshops may focus on painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, animation and digital media facilitated by professional artists and school teachers with specialised skills.

- Day 1: Thursday 3 September 2026 | 9 am – 3 pm
- Day 2: Friday 4 September 2026 | 9 am – 3 pm
On Friday, family, friends and teachers are invited to view an exhibition of students’ work from 3 pm to 4 pm.
Cost: $66 per student

Payment
The two-day workshop costs $66 per student and must be paid before the workshop date. Students who are successful in their application will receive instructions on how to make payment through the payment portal.
If a school chooses to pay on behalf of its students, fees will be collected directly by The Arts Unit. Please email the program coordinator to organise school payments.

Vuvale was an exhibition of new works by Blue Mountains artist, Karlina Mitchell. Mitchell is an artist of multicultural heritage, comprising Fijian and German ancestry, whose work unpacks the ways that culture is enacted and re-enacted in the diaspora.
