The Arts Unit runs a series of skills development workshops for interested drama students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students participate in workshops led by specialist tutors from the performing arts industry to develop their drama skills.

The Drama Skills Development Workshops offer different workshops delivered by drama professionals and industry specialists. The workshop dates and focus areas change year to year, so please read through the information for each workshop day carefully.

2026 workshops

The Drama Skills Development Workshops for schools will focus on physical theatre and circus skills and be delivered by Swoop Physical Theatre.

School workshops will take place in Metro South and West region during September (Term 3 Week 8), and the Central and Far West, and Riverina and Murray Regions during November.

The Drama Skills Development Workshops for individual students will also be available for individual primary and secondary students at The Arts Unit, Lewisham. Workshops will be offered in physical theatre and circus skills with Swoop Physical Theatre and improvisation with The Improv Theatre Sydney.

South west Sydney schools workshops

The EOI form for the south west Sydney schools workshops have now closed.

Workshop dates: Monday 7 to Friday 11 September 2026

Start times: 9:30 am and 12:30 pm

Venues:

Schools are asked to nominate their preferred venue, either:

  • Hannans Road Public School, Hannans Rd Riverwood NSW 2210
  • Ruse Public School, Junction Rd Ruse NSW 2560

Please note: workshops will be physically active. Students must bring their own water bottles and wear comfortable clothing. School PE uniforms are ideal.

To express your interest in these workshops, please complete the western NSW EOI form and submit by Friday 4 September (Term 3 Week 7) to allow for planning. All workshops will be confirmed by Friday 25 September (Term 3 Week 10).

Start times: 9:30 am and 12:30 pm

Locations: Dubbo |  Parkes |  Cowra |  Orange

Venues: TBC

To express your interest in these workshops, please complete the Riverina and Murray EOI form and submit by Friday 18 September (Term 3 Week 9) to allow for planning. All workshops will be confirmed by Friday 25 September (Term 3 Week 10).

Individual student workshops at The Arts Unit

In 2026, Drama Skills Development Workshops for individual primary and secondary students (Years 3 to 11) will take place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October at the Arts Unit, Lewisham.

How to register

To register for an individual workshop, use the links below. Registrations close on Friday 25 September 2026 (Term 3 Week 10).

Workshop options:

  • Workshop 1 – physical theatre and circus skills with Swoop Physical Theatre
  • Workshop 2 – improvisation with The Improv Theatre Sydney

Workshops will run for two hours, commencing at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. Students can elect to do one workshop or two.

Please note: depending on numbers, both workshops may run in both sessions.

Students can come for just one session or can book in for both sessions for a full day of workshops. Students who book for the full-day face-to-face workshops will need to bring their lunch and will be supervised by teachers during the break.

Workshop capacity: 30

Venue: The Arts Unit, Corner Toothill Street and The Boulevarde, Lewisham.

Cost: $40 per student per workshop. All payments will be accepted online through our student payment portal.

Payment

Individual students: Payment must be made prior to the workshop through The Arts Unit student payment portal.

Schools: Student payments are to be collected by the school, and schools will then be journaled for the number of participants after the workshops.
