Applications for the instrumental ensembles at the Arts Unit.

Application process

  1. Complete the following web form application.
  2. Refer to the audition requirements for your instruments.
  3. Start preparing and practising for your audition!
  4. A link will be emailed to you on Friday 9 October with access to the set excerpts.
  5. Your audition will be scheduled on either Saturday 24 or Sunday 25 October and will be held at The Arts Unit at Lewisham Public School. You will receive your scheduled audition time via email on Monday 12 October.

Fees

  • The annual membership fees for 2027 are $700 per ensemble (paid as $350 per semester).
  • New members will need to pay $45 for a performance shirt.

Live auditions for the 2025 Instrumental Music Ensembles will be held on Saturday 26 October and Sunday 27 October 2024.

Application process

  5. Your audition will be scheduled on either Saturday 26 October or Sunday 27 October and will be held at The Arts Unit at Lewisham Public School. You will receive your scheduled audition time via email on Monday 14 October.

  • Approximate standard for our intermediate ensembles (Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Stage Band and String Sinfonia) is AMEB grade 4+.
  • Approximate standard for our advanced ensembles (Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra) is AMEB grade 6+.

Instrumental ensembles

Weekly music ensembles develop high-level music skills, while seasonal state ensembles meet for intensives before festival performances. Expert tutors for all ensembles enhance the musical experience for the students.

Important information

In the event of injury, no personal injury insurance cover is provided by the NSW Department of Education for students in relation to school sporting activities, physical education lessons or any other school activity. The department’s public liability cover is fault-based and limited to breaches by the department of its duty of care to students that may result in claims for compensation.

Parents/carers are advised to assess the level and extent of their child’s involvement in the activity when deciding whether additional insurance cover is required prior to their child’s involvement in the program. Personal accident insurance cover is available through normal retail insurance outlets.
