This is a high-energy one-day workshop for secondary students (Years 7 to 12) who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and attend a NSW public school. The workshop is suitable for both experienced and non-experienced dancers.

This program is an exciting collaboration between the internationally renowned Bangarra Dance Theatre and the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit. During the program, tutors from Bangarra work with students to learn and perform a contemporary Indigenous dance repertoire.

Pease be aware that there are online workshops, which have later close date.

Venues and dates

Term 1 Week 9

  • Tuesday 17 June– Tweed River High School​​​​​​
  • Wednesday 18 June– The Rivers Secondary College, Lismore High School Campus
  • Friday 19 June– Grafton High School

Workshop information 

  • Face-to-face workshops from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
  • Participation fee: $35.00 per student
  • Open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 3 to 6
  • Teachers are required to retain copies of the Authority to Film and Record form for each participating student.

Attendance

The program starts at 9:30 am and concludes at 2:30 pm. Please note that this may mean your students will need to arrange alternate transport to and from school on this day in order to attend the full days workshop. Arriving late and leaving early is disruptive to the tutors and other students in the program.

If you are unable to attend the workshop, you have up to seven days to submit a refund request. Please email your request to [email protected]. Refunds will only be processed in cases of extenuating circumstances.

Students attending workshops with a teacher

  1. Up to 10 students per school can attend the workshop as a group. If you would like to request for an increase of numbers, please email [email protected]

Unaccompanied student/s attending the workshop

  1. A maximum of 2 students can attend the workshops unaccompanied.
  2. Email a request for the unaccompanied student/s to attend for approval to the Program Coordinator – Ashley Napoleoni

Important information

In the event of injury, no personal injury insurance cover is provided by the NSW Department of Education for students in relation to school sporting activities, physical education lessons or any other school activity. The department’s public liability cover is fault-based and limited to breaches by the department of its duty of care to students that may result in claims for compensation.

Parents/carers are advised to assess the level and extent of their child’s involvement in the activity when deciding whether additional insurance cover is required prior to their child’s involvement in the program. Personal accident insurance cover is available through normal retail insurance outlets.

Privacy notice

The information requested in this note is being collected by the NSW Department of Education. The department will use the information in connection with your student's participation in this event for the following purposes:

  1. administration;
  2. communication with parents/carers; and
  3. for the health, safety and welfare of your student.

The department might share the information requested in this note with health care providers in the event that your student requires urgent medical attention. All personal information will be held securely and disposed of securely when no longer needed.

The provision of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander status or gender status is voluntary, and not providing either of them will not impact on your student's participation. All other additional support information requested in this form is voluntary.

The student and parent/caregiver has read and understood Student Behaviour Code. They understand that there will be consequences if the student does not behave appropriately. In these cases, action will be taken at The Arts Unit and/or the student's school and may include withdrawal from this and future activities.
