Dance workshops – South Western Sydney – South Asian cultural immersion dance workshop applications closing
Region: Metro, Metro South and West, Regional South
Dates
Applications closing: Fri 6 Feb 2026
The South Asian Cultural Immersion Dance Workshop is a one-day program for Year 5 to Year 12 NSW public school students who have a passion for and interest in cultural dance.
This workshop fosters creativity, confidence, and cultural connection through a vibrant blend of traditional and contemporary South Asian dance forms, taught by experienced South Asian dance tutors. Participants will explore folk styles such as Khatak and Bhangra alongside Bollywood dance and related cultural practices.
While the workshop is open to all students, schools are encouraged to share this opportunity with students who identify as South Asian or are of South Asian heritage. This will enable students to celebrate their cultural identity, connect with others, and develop confidence and creativity through dance. This includes students with backgrounds from Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and other countries and cultural identities within the region.
All sessions are tailored to meet the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds, including those with different skill levels and prior dance experience. Students will be encouraged to work within their own capabilities and to experience dance in a positive, inclusive environment.
Schools may nominate up to six students, with teachers attending the day with their students as professional development. Teachers are encouraged to actively engage in the workshop sessions, supporting intergenerational cultural immersion.
Workshop date and time: Tue 24 Feb 2026, 9:15 am to 2:30 pm
