Film By the Water 2025
The very first Film By the Water festival made a spectacular splash on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, at Scotty’s Cinemas in Raymond Terrace.
Schools from across the Port Stephens region came together to showcase a remarkable collection of student-made films that highlighted creativity, collaboration, and storytelling at its finest. The passion of the young filmmakers shone through every frame, supported by the dedication and guidance of their teachers, creating an unforgettable celebration of student achievement.
The event was also attended by the Mayor of Port Stephens, Leah Anderson, who praised the creativity and enthusiasm on display. She shared:
“I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Arts Unit Film by the Waters event recently... I was absolutely blown away watching the short films the students produced – such creativity! To hear that 99% of Schools participated in this inaugural year of the program being produced and delivered in Port Stephens is a testament to the value of this opportunity provided by the NSW Department of Education – Film By/Arts Unit. I have no doubt that the students of Port Stephens will be excited to see this opportunity return again next year – and I am sure our wider Port Stephens Community would love the opportunity to also see the wonderful short films from our local students. Great work Karishma Mathur, to you and your Department – what a wonderful opportunity for us here in Port Stephens”.
With the success of its inaugural year, anticipation is already building for Film By the Water 2026. We can’t wait to see even more schools take part, as this vibrant festival continues to nurture the next generation of storytellers and filmmakers in the region.
