Aboriginal Culture Through Dance is a one-day workshop for Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander students in Year 3 to Year 12 from NSW public schools.

The program provides an opportunity for Aboriginal and or Torres Strait islander students and their teachers to participate in a one-day dance workshop to connect, collaborate and celebrate culture through dance.

Dance, as an art form for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, was used as a spiritual outlet to tell stories and celebrate culture. Students are not only taught about Aboriginal dance but are also taught choreographic skills to create their own dance, thus producing a deeper level of understanding for dance and their Aboriginal culture, developing student voice and ownership of dance works created.

Workshops are led by professional Aboriginal dancers and/or elders and provide students with a platform to feel culturally connected.

All sessions are tailored to meet the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds, including those with different skill levels and prior dance experience. Students will be encouraged to work within their own capabilities and to experience dance in a positive, culturally safe and inclusive environment.
