The Mid North Coast Junior Dance Ensemble program aims to foster the development of talented dance students from Year 5 to Year 8 in dance from public schools within the Coffs Harbour, Clarence and Grafton area.

This ensemble is aimed at talented dance students who display a high level of technical skill and performance quality and wish to be involved in the choreographic process to create, learn and perform one contemporary dance work at the Mid North Coast Dance Festival.

The ensemble performs at the Mid North Coast Dance Festival in July and will audition to perform at State Dance Festival in Sydney.

Eligibility

Mid North Coast Junior Dance Ensemble is open to talented and passionate dancers in Years 5 to 8. Membership is by audition only and is open to students attending NSW public schools living across the Mid North Coast. Boys are strongly encouraged to apply.

Students must have the endorsement of their principal to apply.

Auditions

Students must upload a video audition showing the student performing a 1 minute solo within their chosen dance style to particularly highlight their technical skills and performance quality.

Membership Fee

The student membership fee of $200 covers expert tuition, rehearsals and costumes. Upon acceptance, the fee is to be paid to the student's local school office.

Schools are asked to contribute a $40 levy per student.

Workshop rehearsals

Junior Ensemble will rehearse at Coffs Harbour Senior College Dance Studio as follows:

Term 2 Week 3: Friday 16 May 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Term 2 Week 5: Friday 30 May 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Term 2 Week 8: Monday 16 June 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Performance commitments

The ensemble will perform at the Mid North Coast Dance Festival from Monday 16 to Thursday 19 June 2025.

This ensemble will also audition to perform at State Dance Festival. It is expected that students who apply for Mid North Coast Dance Ensembles will ensure they are available to attend State Dance Festival should the ensemble be accepted. State Dance Festival will be held at the Seymour Centre from Monday 15 to Friday 19 September 2025.
