Western NSW Senior Contemporary Dance Ensemble

Audition for an elite performance experience where students will be immersed in advanced choreography, professional rehearsal environments, and the collaborative creative process of developing an exceptional contemporary dance work.
Open to students in Years 7–12 from NSW public schools across Western NSW.
About the ensemble
This ensemble is designed for dedicated dancers who want to:
- train and collaborate with professional choreographers
- be part of the choreographic process, shaping an original contemporary dance work
- connect with talented students from across Western NSW
- perform at the Bathurst and Dubbo Western NSW Dance Festivals in professional venues
- audition once again for the State Dance Festival, representing regional excellence on a state-wide stage.

How to apply
Applications closing date: Friday 13 February 2026 (Term 1 Week 3).
All applicants will be invited to attend the audition workshop.
Audition date: Monday 9 March 2026 (Term 1 Week 7)
Audition times: 9:30 am to 2 pm
Audition venue: Narromine High School

Workshop rehearsals
Ensemble members must be available for all of the following workshop rehearsal days:
Dates: Thursday 7 and Friday 8 May 2026 (Term 2 Week 3)
Times: 9:30 am to 2 pm
Venue: Narromine High School
State Dance Festival rehearsal date (if selected): Tuesday 8 September (Term 3 Week 8)
Students in the ensemble will also need to be available to perform at the Western NSW Dance Festival:
- Western NSW Dance Festival – Dubbo Showcase: Monday 25 or Tuesday 26 May 2026 (Term 2 Week 6)
- Western NSW Dance Festival – Bathurst Showcase: Tuesday 16 or Wednesday 17 June 2026 (Term 2 Week 9)
Please note: students will only be required for one of the above dates for each of the showcases TBA.
Students must commit to the ensemble and attend all scheduled rehearsals for the entire length of time.
Students will be supervised by Department of Education staff at all times.

The Arts Unit is seeking a motivated and experienced teacher to take on the role of Dance Coordinating Teacher for the following ensembles:
- Western NSW Senior Contemporary Dance Ensemble
- Western NSW Senior Musical Theatre Dance Ensemble
- Western NSW Junior Contemporary Dance Ensemble
This position plays a vital role in supporting (HPGE) students from across the region and ensuring the smooth running of key dance activities and events throughout the year.
