Illawarra South East Regional Performing Ensemble

• The Ensemble tours and performs in various public schools once a term over three days. Sometimes, special performances are requested of the group, which require an additional night or daytime commitment. 
• Any selected performers for the Ensemble will be required to attend a 3-day camp (1 school day only) from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 February 2025 (Term 1 Week 4 2025).
• A rehearsal (usually a Sunday) before each tour is required.
• Example fee schedule:
  • $250 for each of the 4 terms
  • $200 camp fee
  • other non-compulsory uniform requirements (TBC at camp).

Please complete the 2025 ISE Regional Performing Ensemble Audition application by 5:00 pm Sunday 1 December 2024.

Once your online application has been received, permission from your school principal will be sought. Principal endorsement is required for students to participate in the ISE Regional Performing Ensemble.

All applicants must perform an audition. Students may audition for one or more of the artistic disciplines in the Ensemble (dance, vocal, stage band). Students must attend all relevant discipline audition days if they are auditioning for multiple disciplines.

• Eligibility: Open to students in regional NSW public schools from Years 7 to 11 in 2025.
• Audition date: Thursday 19 December 2024 (Term 4 Week 10)
• Audition venue: Woonona High School
• Times: TBA emailed out to parent contact Monday 9 December 2024 (Term 4 Week 9)
• Audition process:
  • Auditions will occur through live performance of a piece of free choice designed to demonstrate the performer’s ability and range of style, 2 mins maximum.
  • The audition should demonstrate a prepared performance.
  • It need not be from the start of the selected piece.
  • If required, the auditionee may be asked to perform a short sight-reading excerpt to gauge their ability.
  • Amplifiers, a drum kit and piano will be available.
  • Students absent through extreme circumstances may be asked to attend the Ensemble Camp as their call-back.
  • Please note: Instrumental auditions will be stopped at 2 minutes. Please do not be offended if your audition is stopped; this is purely to ensure all auditions have equal time

The Ensemble is only stage band instruments:

• Trumpet
• Trombone
• Saxophone (alto, tenor, baritone)
• Keyboard
• Electric guitar
• Bass guitar/double bass
• Drums

• Audition date: Saturday 7 December 2024 (Term 4 Week 8)
• Audition venue: Woonona High School
• Times: TBA emailed out to parent contact Monday 2 December 2024 (Term 4 Week 8)
• Audition process:
  • Auditions will occur in two parts.
  • The first session will be a live performance of a piece of free choice designed to show the singer’s ability, 2 minutes maximum, with backing to best show the singer’s pitching with an accompaniment.
  • No costumes or props, but the audition should demonstrate a prepared performance.
  • It need not be from the start of the selected piece.
  • Please note: Vocal auditions will be stopped at 2 minutes. Please do not be offended if your audition is stopped; this is purely to ensure all auditions have equal time
  • Students will be advised immediately of their success in reaching the call back session from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
  • In this part of this audition, students will be asked to sing harmonies, learn a part to a short song, along with choreography.
  • Students should have some experience in ensemble singing and the ability to follow musical scores.

• Eligibility: Open to students in regional NSW public schools from Years 7 to 11 in 2025.
• Audition date: Thursday 19 December 2024 (Term 4 Week 10)
• Audition venue: Woonona High School
• Times: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
• Audition process:
  • Selection through a choreographed workshop taught to the students on the day by a choreographer.
  • Auditioning students will be taught jazz and lyrical routines at the audition.
  • Tap ability will also be assessed.
  • Please wear appropriate dance attire.
