The Primary Wind Ensemble is for NSW public school primary-aged students who currently do not have access to a band at their own schools or have limited access (perhaps a very small or developing ensemble).

The ensemble targets talent development for students from Years 4 to 6 who have a minimum of 12 months of lessons and are familiar with the workings of their instruments. Students are expected to receive weekly lessons on their instruments as students are expected to work on the ensemble music throughout the year.

The Primary Wind Ensemble also includes selected High Potential and Gifted students from local public schools who are gifted musicians to act as leaders and mentors for each section of the ensemble.
