Instrument hire conditions

1. A hire agreement must be signed before items are collected from Arts Unit premises.  School hires will be delivered by the Arts Unit or couriered (at the school's expense). Parent hirers are responsible for the collection and return of instruments, being aware of the size, shape and weight of the items to be moved.
2. The hirer is responsible for the care and maintenance of instruments whilst on loan.
3. The hirer agrees to pay the cost of replacement, as determined by the Arts Unit, or repairs should the instrument be lost or damaged while on loan. For insurance purposes, the instrument is covered by the Department's insurance whilst it is on Department property (such as a school) or whilst it is being used for Departmental purposes (for instance, at a school concert at an external venue). The instrument is not covered at other times (such as in hirer's house or in transit).  It is advised that the hirer takes out insurance to cover the instrument whilst it is in their possession.
4. The hirer agrees to return the instrument immediately should the Arts Unit need to recall it from loan.
5. Members of the Arts Unit ensembles are eligible for a discount of 30%. 
6. All instruments must be professionally cleaned and serviced at the hirer's expense prior to return to the Arts Unit. A copy of the service receipt must be provided when the instrument is returned.  If one is not, the Arts Unit will arrange for a professional clean and service and the hirer will be billed.

Instrument hire fees

Hires to public schools will be billed annually via sundry tax invoice in the SAP finance system.  Schools will pay a half-yearly fee for any period up to 6 months and a yearly fee for any period between 6 and 12 months. GST does not apply for school loans.

Hires to public school parents will be invoiced personally. Invoices can be paid in 3, 6 or 12 monthly instalments. GST does apply to parent hires.

Equipment hire

The Arts Unit also has an extensive range of orchestral percussion instruments available for short-term hire, including timpani, glockenspiel, xylophone, marimba, vibraphone, tubular bells, crotales, bass drum and tam tam, as well as drum kits, keyboards and amplifiers.

Also available for short-term hire are music stands, podiums, band risers and choir risers.

There are 12 Wenger band risers available, 4 sections each (each section is 2440mm wide x 1230mm deep) at 3 different heights: 220mm, 400mm and 600mm.

There are 5 Sico choir risers available, each with 4 tiers and rear safety barrier.   These choir risers are mounted on wheels and are easy to manoeuvre.  Each riser will accommodate approximately 25 primary students: 5 per tier, with 5 standing on the ground in front of the first tier

Print music hire fees and conditions.

Instrumental set hire fees

Government schools: $40 handling fee per set
Non-government schools and community groups: $60 + GST handling fee per set
Maximum number of sets per loan is 3.

Vocal or choral score

Government schools: $1 handling fee per part
Non-government schools and community groups: $1.50 + GST handling fee per part
There is no limit to the number of choral scores per loan.
 

Conditions of hire

1. All music borrowed must be returned in the condition in which it was received.
2. All markings on the music must be made in soft lead pencil only and be carefully removed after use, otherwise, a fee will be charged.
3. On receiving material, borrowers must check against the inventory we supply and again before returning the material.
4. A charge will be made for all missing or defaced material at full replacement cost, and borrowing rights will be suspended until payment of the replacement cost is received.
5. The standard borrowing time is 12 weeks.
6. The Arts Unit reserves the right to recall any material at any time for whatever reason it deems valid. In this situation a refund may be offered to the hirer.
7. The photocopying of music hired from the Arts Unit is illegal in all circumstances. The music on hire is owned by the Arts Unit and, while on hire, is not covered by any photocopying license.
