Instrumental ensembles

Weekly music ensembles foster advanced musical skills, while seasonal state ensembles gather for intensive sessions leading up to festival performances. Expert tutors enrich the experience for all participating students.

These instrumental ensembles are available to NSW public school students, with both audition-based and open programs ensuring music is accessible to everyone.

Newcastle/Lake Macquarie/Maitland

Primary Wind Ensemble

Years 4 to 6
The ensemble will target talent development for students that have a minimum of 12 months of lessons and are familiar with the workings of their instruments. High Potential and Gifted students will also join the ensemble to act as leaders and mentors.

State Wind Bands

The State Wind Band provides an opportunity for high potential and gifted music students in NSW public schools to perform in a state ensemble under the direction of professional conductors. The band will perform repertoire chosen to challenge and extend students' musical skills.

Students are auditioned from all over Greater Sydney to form a 100+ piece concert band. 2024 marks the 30th year of the Sydney Southeast Symphonic Winds ensemble (formerly known as the Sydney Region Band).
