How to apply

Applications are now closed for individual students to nominate to be a principal vocalist in Pulse Alive 2026.

Please complete the principal vocalist nomination form by Monday 22 September 2025 (Term 3 Week 10).

Please note, this year all auditions for principal vocalists will be live auditions. Once you have completed the nomination form, you will be emailed a link to book a live audition slot. The live audition will take approximately 3 hours. At the live audition, students will be required to:

  • Participate in a group part-singing workshop. Repertoire to prepare for this workshop will be emailed out once the nomination form has been completed.
  • Perform two contrasting songs of their own choice. Please note, the panel many not be able to hear each song in it's entirety.
  • Learn and perform short excerpts from the repertoire for Pulse Alive 2026. These excerpts will be emailed out once the nomination form has been completed.

We strongly encourage all students to attend the live audition if possible. An online audition option will be made available in exceptional circumstances. Information around making this request will be distributed via email once the nomination form has been completed.

Eligibility and selection

Nominations were open to students in Year 5 to Year 12 in 2026 who will be enrolled at a NSW public school.

Vocalists selected via the audition process will be formed into various combinations for items throughout the show.

Please note, this category is only open to individual performers.

Students participating in this category will be supervised by members of the Pulse Alive team. Schools will not be expected to provide a teacher for duty of care of these students.

Commitment

Students selected as principal vocalists must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates. A medical certificate must be supplied for each missed rehearsal, otherwise students will forfeit their place as a principal vocalist. No refunds of student resource fees will be given in this circumstance. Due to the limited number of rehearsals for principal vocalists, any rehearsal missed due to illness (with a medical certificate) will result in the student's role being modified or reduced.

Costume

The costume for all items will include multiple coloured Pulse Alive t-shirts, included within your student resource fee.

Principal vocalists will be asked to supply a pair of blue denim jeans, white socks and white sneakers to go with your Pulse Alive t-shirts.

Resource fee

There will be a resource fee of $200 per student (GST inclusive).

The resource fee assists with the costs involved in the conductors, choreographers and tutors working with the students, supports a number of music clearance costs and includes a Pulse Alive t-shirt, which will be worn by all performers as their costume during the event.

Principal vocalists will be required to pay the resource fee through The Arts Unit student payment portal on acceptance into the show.
