CATHERINE GILHOLME: The Primary Aboriginal Dance program is a series of workshops which aim to foster the development of dance skills and cultural significance for experienced and inexperienced dancers.

This program is available for students from Years 3 to 6 who identify as Aboriginal and who attend a NSW Public School. Teachers can apply to bring groups or individual students who have an interest in learning cultural dance and connecting to culture.

During the workshop, students will learn a range of skills and dance movement which draws on traditional elements as well as contemporary Aboriginal Dance and Torres Strait Islander dance. Teachers attending the workshop can also be accredited with 4 hours of Teacher Identified Professional Learning for standards 1.4, 4.1 and 6.3.

Teachers can apply online at the Arts Unit website on the Dance Workshops, Primary Aboriginal Dance Workshops page. Confirmation of acceptance is sent to teachers once all of the required permissions are received from the school.

The Primary Aboriginal Dance Program runs in Term 3 at a series of venues across the state. Check The Arts Unit website for more details and information on a venue near you. If you would also like to host one of the workshops please contact one of our Arts Initiatives team. Hope to see you there.
