NARRATOR: Returning to me

[pensive piano music]

From a very young age

I have always been told who I am meant to be,

Be a sweet girl,

A good girl,

A soft curl,

A would girl.

But good girls go bad and the curls aren't as soft as they seem

They're tight,

Tight is the restraints I have bound in me telling me who to be.

Well, I'm done with being the sweet girl,

Soft curl you want me to be.

Starting now,

I will scream and shout.

I will prick and pry,

Slip and clip out of this box society put on me,

They say sticks and stones won't break your bones,

But when I speak of who I am told to be,

My bones turn to jelly

And I,

I cannot breathe.

From a very young age,

I have always been told who I am meant to be.

Well no more.

Today I break free,

Free from the restraints,

It'll lift me,

Empower me,

I am going to be who I want to be,

Not where society decides to put me.

[pensive music continues]
