[gentle music]

NARRATOR: The inner west of Sydney is home to over 460,000 scooters, one of which resides here. Every scooter has an owner, just like this one, and the bond they share is crucial to the scooters' survival.

But today, disaster has struck. The child has become distracted and abandoned Scoot. If Scoot does not find his way home soon, it is a sure death sentence for a destitute, alone and scared scooter. So, without any other option, Scoot begins his journey home without his owner's help. It is slow, arduous and tiring work.

[persevering music]

But soon, it encounters its first obstacle. Although its owner has always treated it well, other children don't often share these qualities. This child in particular seems to have little respect for Scoot, and if this keeps up, he will likely succumb to the treatment and break.

[tentative music]

Injured, exhausted and hopeless, Scoot lies in the burning sun. Dehydration has struck, and the effects of his bent wheel begin to catch up with him. He struggles on through the midday heat, forced to learn how to move using his bent wheel.

Summer in this region can reach upwards of 40 degrees Celsius, and Scoot can't last much longer in the scorching heat. A new threat appears, a bearded dragon. Bearded dragons scavenge on whatever they find lying around, and a helpless scooter is not off their menu. Miraculously, this one does not appear hungry and passes Scoot by.

Finally, things begin to look up as Scoot finds some freshly spilt water. This will provide him with the energy to make it the rest of the way home. With the end finally in sight, Scoot seems like he's going to make it through this after all.

[hopeful music]

At last, he's made it home to his door, narrowly avoiding his fate today, but tomorrow may bring a whole new set of challenges.

[knocking]
