Schools Spectacular 2024 – On Country Day Acknowledgement of Country

On 28 October 2024, students from 16 schools participated in an On Country Day at Cathy Freeman Park and experienced a creative way of sharing culture and connecting with other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

This event was open to all teachers, and support staff Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students involved in Schools Spectacular 2024. 

This day was used to develop the Acknowledgment of Country that will be used in the SpecArena show.

NOAH SMITH: Yaama.

AURIELLE SMITH: Yaama. Hello.

AXEL WELLINGS: I acknowledge.

AMIRAH SERGAS & ERIKA BEAUPARK: We acknowledge.

NOAH SMITH: The Wangal, the Burramattagal and the Wallumettagal, whose Country we stand on today.

AURIELLE SMITH: We are thankful that we are learning and sharing together on this meeting place today, surrounded by natural beauty and rich resources.

AXEL WELLINGS: Our people have been respecting and caring for these lands that we now call NSW since the first dream.

AMIRAH SERGAS: We acknowledge and respect our ancestors, storytellers and knowledge keepers for educating future generations on how to heal Country using our voice.

ERIKA BEAUPARK: Our voice.

NOAH SMITH: We respectfully honour our Elders, both past and present, whose commitment and resilience have laid the foundations for our communities today.

AURIELLE SMITH: It's their shoulders we stand on.

AXEL WELLINGS: We, as emerging leaders, have the responsibility to amplify their voices of the past, honour and respect the truth of today, and to grow a culturally rich future.

AMIRAH SERGAS: The creative expression of our storytelling is fuelled by our culture, our heritage and our songlines.

ERIKA BEAUPARK: As we walk in their footsteps, we remember that this land, yesterday, today and forever, is the land of the Wangal, the Burramattagal and the Wallumettagal.

NOAH SMITH: We acknowledge the significance of this moment here in the continuum of time.

AURIELLE SMITH: And as we dance to the rhythm of Mother Earth, may we march strong with culture.

AXEL WELLINGS: Together.

ALL: As one.
