[intro music]

NATE: Being a part of the State Boys Ensemble has connected me with heaps of guys across the state, which has really inspired me, especially because of my position as one of the older members in the ensemble. The connection to the younger kids, especially the primary kids, that-- all of the energy and their enthusiasm towards dance and the beautiful kind of connection and camaraderie that we all have is really brought us all together, and it's lifted the energy, and it's made it a great experience for us.

PETE EVANS: I think the unique qualities that an all-male ensemble bring as individuals and as a group is a real heightened athleticism.

ELLIOTT: When I joined the NSW Boys State Dance ensemble, I had an aim to get into new opportunities.

BILLY: It's really different to what I do at my dance studio, and it really opened up the door to what's out there in terms of dance and different styles.

NATE: As part of the first workshop, we had a bunch of male tutors come and kind of teach us their stylistic qualities and their connection to the industry, which is really incredible for one of the older people like me.

ELIJAH: Being a part of the Boys State Dance Ensemble is different to other experiences that I've had because I can dance with a lot more masculine energy than I can at my dance studio.

PETE EVANS: They've all found an outlet within each other to discuss the likemindedness and the shared passion for what we're doing. They're given the opportunity to collaborate with me and also to showcase their strengths, and then we really, really build on that.

ADRIAN: Some advice I would give to any younger boys or any younger males that are wanting to join the boys ensemble, I would say if you feel like you're going to get judged, don't. All the boys are so strong together, and everyone really knows how to connect.

ARCHIE: It's a great time to meet new friends and have a great experience with boys that have the same passion of dance that you do.

PETE EVANS: Some advice that I'd give students that are hoping to audition for next year's all boys ensemble is do it. I think if I had had this opportunity when I was their age, I would have absolutely jumped on it.
