The NSW public schools vocal ensembles program has two choirs available to NSW public school students in 2027:

  • The NSW Public Schools Junior Singers (Years 4 to 8)
  • The NSW Public Schools Senior Singers (Years 8 to 12)

Application process

Both these ensembles have the same application and audition process.

  1. Complete the web form application below. 
  2. An email will be sent Friday 6 November outlining a folk song that you will need to prepare for your audition
  3. Your audition will be scheduled on Saturday 5 December and you will be emailed your audition time on Friday 6 November.

Audition process

  • Audition resources will be uploaded to the website and a link sent to all applicants on Friday 6 November
  • In the live audition, you will be given some range exercises, such as scales and arpeggios.
  • You will need to sing the set piece twice – once with piano accompaniment, and once a cappella (unaccompanied).
  • Students auditioning for the senior ensemble (Years 8 to 12) will be given some simple sight-reading.

Fees

  • The annual membership fees for vocal ensembles for 2027 are $500 (paid as $250 per semester)
  • New members will need to pay $45 for a performance shirt.

Specific privacy information

The department will use information about your child’s

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status for the purpose of implementing its Aboriginal Education Policy.
  • Identified additional support information to ensure appropriate learning adjustments are in place.

The provision of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander status or gender status is voluntary, and not providing either of them will not impact on your child’s participation. All other additional support information requested in this form is voluntary.

Important information

In the event of injury, no personal injury insurance cover is provided by the NSW Department of Education for students in relation to school sporting activities, physical education lessons or any other school activity. The department’s public liability cover is fault-based and limited to breaches by the department of its duty of care to students that may result in claims for compensation.

Parents/carers are advised to assess the level and extent of their child’s involvement in the activity when deciding whether additional insurance cover is required prior to their child’s involvement in the program. Personal accident insurance cover is available through normal retail insurance outlets.
