The Arts Unit is seeking a motivated and experienced teacher to take on the role of Dance Coordinating Teacher for the following ensembles:

  • Western NSW Senior Contemporary Dance Ensemble 
  • Western NSW Senior Musical Theatre Dance Ensemble 
  • Western NSW Junior Contemporary Dance Ensemble 

This position plays a vital role in supporting (HPGE) students from across the region and ensuring the smooth running of key dance activities and events throughout the year.

Eligibility

Applicants must be current NSW Department of Education teachers (primary or secondary) working within Western NSW.

Selection criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • strong organisational and time management skills
  • excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • capacity to work collaboratively with students, staff, and external partners
  • a commitment to student wellbeing and safety.

Key responsibilities

Collaboratively with the Arts Coordination Officer – Western NSW, the coordinating teacher will:

  • oversee the running of the workshop and performance days
  • ensure the dance tutor and venue are organised and prepared
  • maintain duty of care for participating students, including sign-in/out procedures
  • provide first aid support if required
  • attend and supervise the ensemble at the Western NSW Dance Festival, including running rehearsals and cleaning choreographed items if the tutor is unavailable
  • if selected for the State Dance Festival, accompany and coordinate the ensemble/s in Sydney.

Commitment

This role involves attendance at scheduled rehearsals, audition days, and festivals as required.

Western NSW Senior Contemporary Dance Ensemble dates: 

  • Monday 9 March (Term 1 Week 7) 9:30 am to 2 pm – audition workshop
  • Thursday 7 May (Term 2 Week 3) 9:30 am to 2 pm – 2-day comprehensive workshop
  • Friday 8 May (Term 2 Week 3) 9:30 am to 2 pm – 2-day comprehensive workshop
  • State Dance Festival rehearsal date (if selected): Tuesday 8 September (Term 3 Week 8)

Host venue for all rehearsals: TBA

 

Western NSW Senior Musical Theatre Dance Ensemble dates: 

  • Tuesday 3 March (Term 1 Week 6) 9:30 am to 2 pm – audition workshop
  • Monday 4 May (Term 2 Week 3) 9:30 am to 2 pm – 2-day comprehensive workshop
  • Tuesday 5 May (Term 2 Week 3) 9:30 am to 2 pm – 2-day comprehensive workshop
  • State Dance Festival rehearsal date (if selected): Wednesday 9 September (Term 3 Week 8)

Host venue for rehearsals: TBA

 

Western NSW Junior Contemporary Dance Ensemble dates: 

  • Monday 9 March (Term 1 Week 7) 9:30 am to 2 pm – audition workshop
  • Thursday 7 May (Term 2 Week 3) 9:30 am to 2 pm – 2-day comprehensive workshop
  • Friday 8 May (Term 2 Week 3) 9:30 am to 2 pm – 2-day comprehensive workshop
  • State Dance Festival rehearsal date (if selected): Monday 7 September (Term 3 Week 8)

Host venue for rehearsals: TBA

 

Western NSW Dance Festival dates and venues:

  • Dubbo showcase: Monday 25 or Tuesday 26 May 2026 (Term 2 Week 6)
  • Bathurst showcase: Tuesday 16 or Wednesday 17 June 2026 (Term 2 Week 9)

Please note: Each ensemble will be scheduled to perform on one of the above dates at their respective location (exact date to be confirmed).

Casual relief is available where appropriate, and if students are selected for the State Dance Festival, travel and relief costs will be available.

State Dance Festival, held at the Seymour Centre in Term 3 Week 9 (14 to 18 September 2026).

Important information

In the event of injury, no personal injury insurance cover is provided by the NSW Department of Education for students in relation to school sporting activities, physical education lessons or any other school activity. The department’s public liability cover is fault-based and limited to breaches by the department of its duty of care to students that may result in claims for compensation.

Parents/carers are advised to assess the level and extent of their child’s involvement in the activity when deciding whether additional insurance cover is required prior to their child’s involvement in the program. Personal accident insurance cover is available through normal retail insurance outlets.
