Our Families Across Australia – long text description

Our Families Across Australia is a very wide painting comprised of 7 panels and shows families of varying numbers and colours situated in different landscapes that evoke ‘home’. A mottled, brightly coloured serpent floats sinuously across the top of each panel, its mosaic-like scales shimmering above the figures below.

Panels 1 and 2 each show 2 family groups against a black city skyline. In panel 1, the sky is pastel blue. On the left, a daughter and mother hold hands. On the right, a son, mother and daughter hold hands. In panel 2, the sky is red with yellow hues. On the left, a father, son and mother hold hands. On the right, a son and father hold hands. In each panel, each person is either red, blue, green, yellow or pink.

Panels 3 to 7 each show brightly coloured family groups next to various dark-coloured animals, all against backgrounds of various hues. In each panel, each person is either red, blue, green, orange, yellow, pink or purple.

Panel 3 has a blue and purple background. In the bottom right, a child, 2 parents and another child hold hands. One adult has long red hair, and the other has a black backpack. In the middle left, a mother, daughter and mother hold hands. The daughter and one mother have blonde hair. In the top right are 2 dark grey kangaroos.

Panel 4 has a pink background with yellow hues. In the bottom left, 2 daughters, a mother, a son, a father and a child hold hands. In the top right, 2 children, a father and a son hold hands. In the top left is a black crow. In the bottom right is a black horse.

Panel 5 has a pink background with white hues. Along the bottom are a black sheep, duck and goat and above them, in the middle, is a pig. In the top left, 2 daughters, a mother and a son hold hands. To the top right, 3 sons and a father hold hands.
