Mirra Whale – woodblock printing workshop
Mirra Whale is a Sydney-based artist who explores everyday, 'banal and commonplace' subjects and presents them from another angle. Her artworks explore the formal and conceptual limits of the genre of still life.
Mirra Whale has been a finalist of several art prizes including the Archibald Prize, Kedumba Drawing Award, Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize, Salon Des Refuses, Portia Geach Portrait Prize, AME Bale Art Prize, Hornsby Art Prize, Mortimore Art Prize and the Manning Gallery Prize.
In 2019 Whale was the winner of the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (EMSLA) and won the Royal Art Society North Sydney Drawing Prize in 2011.
A contemporary D.I.Y relief printing workshop. This wood block printing technique has been inspired by traditional Japanese printing techniques but has been appropriated for at home printing using readily available materials and combining multiple plate and reduction print techniques. Using water-based inks or gouache and rice starch, the workshop is an easy clean up and non-toxic option for home or school.
Enjoy a full day of art making, learning from this highly accomplished Australian artist.
