Literature and language arts (LaLA) programs foster and support student literacy outcomes. NSW Premier's Challenges in debating, public speaking, performance poetry, reading and spelling promote student participation and encourage young people to speak up with confidence while improving their literacy and communication skills.

The Arts Unit’s Poetry Slam is a competition for individual students in Years 7 to 11 attending government secondary schools.
