Years 5 to 12

Students have the rare opportunity to play orchestral repertoire to the highest standard. Performing regularly in a range of high profile concerts, multiple performance opportunities at Sydney venues are offered throughout the year as well as tours.

    About the program 

    Weekly instrumental ensembles are open to NSW public school students in Years 5 to 12 and rehearse at The Arts Unit, in the grounds of Lewisham Public School. Membership is by audition and successful students become a member of their ensemble for one year. All students must re-audition every year to become a member of a weekly instrumental ensemble.

    The Arts Unit offers 2 weekly orchestral ensembles.

    • NSW Public Schools Symphony Orchestra – advanced ensemble
    • NSW Public Schools String Sinfonia – intermediate ensembles
