RYDER: Hi!

JULIA: Um, hi.

RYDER: You're Julia, right? I'm Ryder. Is this seat taken?

JULIA: Um, no.

RYDER: So what are you doing here?

JULIA: Lunch.

RYDER: You know, I thought everyone would be, like, so obsessed with you.

JULIA: Really?

RYDER: Yeah, you know, that's what happens. New kid comes. Everyone fawns over them for a couple of days. They literally can't get enough. [gasps] I know. Are you hiding from your fans?

JULIA: I'm really not. [laughs]

RYDER: So you just don't have any friends.

JULIA: Yeah.

RYDER: Damn, that sucks. Do you want to be my friend?

JULIA: Sure.

[music - Charlie Chan, 'Childlike']

(singing) You with the smile, got me high, got me but I'm a lie. You with the love, with you just I'm a lucky soul.

RYDER: Pay attention.

JULIA: I am paying attention! [laughs]

RYDER: Ugh.

[laughter]

JULIA: --seven days, and we got--

[laughs] No!

Next week?

RYDER: Yeah. I'm leaving next week, when I got a new job.

JULIA: You should go. You're leaving tomorrow night.

RYDER: [groans] I don't wanna.

JULIA: OK. No, seriously. Let's go. Let's--

RYDER: Shh.

JULIA: [giggles]

We were about to make out.

PETER: What?

JULIA: Like-- like, we had this look. Like, a look, look?

PETER: Yes. Julia, I know. Be serious right now. Your girl is leaving today. and frankly, it has been quite painful having to watch you two pine over each other for the past, what, year?

JULIA: Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

PETER: [sighs]

This is your last chance to ask her out. What's the worst she could do, say, no, and leave Sydney forever?

JULIA: Yes!

[sighs]

[background chatter]

Ryder!

RYDER: Jules.

JULIA: Um, I know your train's leaving really soon, so like, I'll be quick. Um-- We've been friends for so long now, and I don't want to keep you in the dark. So I'm gay.

RYDER: Oh, congrats?

JULIA: No. Um-- Like, I'm gay for you? And I totally understand if you don't want to be friends anymore. But I mean, you're leaving Sydney now, forever, and I just felt like I couldn't lie to you, and--

RYDER: No, Jules, I like you, too, not just as a friend.

JULIA: Oh, OK.

[background chatter]

RYDER: My train's leaving soon. I really should go.

JULIA: Wait. Just-- will you be my girlfriend?

RYDER: Yeah, sure.

[music - Charlie Chan, 'Childlike']

(singing) Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey.
