NEALE WHITTAKER: Hi, guys! Welcome back. It's Neil Whittaker here with part two of 'South Of The River' by Tom Misch for 'Art Bites'. Let's do it! So I last finished with an eight. What we're going to do is we're going to send our right hand over the top of our head. We're going to scoop through a contraction, and I'm swinging all my momentum from left to right. So I'm going tick, tick. I'm going to go 1, 2, like that. And I'm finding this little position parallel to the front.

I'm kicking my left leg-- 3 and 4-- and I'm going to drive that shoulder through. I'm inverting the arm. So rather than driving it through this way, I'm turning the arm in towards my centre and I'm driving that shoulder through-- 4. I'm going to keep going with the circular motion. So as I throw the shoulder through, I'm sending it up and over like that. My right leg is going to take the weight. I punch-- 5 and 6, like that.

Boom, boom, boom-- very bouncy step. This whole section should be really smooth and ooey-gooey. From ka-ka, we're thinking, 1, 2, 3, and 4, 5, and 6. On this 6, I'm going to send my left arm over with my left leg, 7, to finish behind. And then I'm going heel-toe and 8. There's a little body roll initiated from when we set that left leg. So when I'm going, pa pa pa, I put it down, 7, put it down behind me. And then I body roll down to initiate heel-toe and 8, like that.

The arms are really free at this point. When we do the shoulder, the kick ball change with the shoulder, we punch through. As we fall back on our right leg, we punch, we get to here, and then from this point, all the way around to the heel toe, is free arms. You can do whatever you like. You can keep them in at your chest. You can open them up. You can send them up into the universe-- totally up to you.

7 and 8. This texture and timing for this next part is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and a 7 and 8. So I give it to you again. So we go smooth, stop, smooth, stop, smooth, stop, and a 7 and 8. And a bit of a quick part at the end. We've gone 7 and 8. We're going to send it forward, 1, 2, like this. So I'm sending both my arms back, all my weight into my right leg. 1, 2. I'm going to send my right arm up and over. 3, 4. I'm going to fix point this right hand.

I'm going to keep it where it is. I'm going to bend my elbow. I'm going to come up and over, 5, 6, and then I send it up into the sky, curling my fingers down, and a 7, to grab a ball, and 8. And that's on a (clap-clap). It's the same sound effect as in our part 1 when we go, ka ka, like that. This is and a 7 and 8 to come up-up, like that. Let's go back and try all of this together. 5, 6, 7, and 8. We go 1, 2, 3, and 4, 5, and 6, place, 7 heel, toe. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and a 7, and 8.

All right. Let's go fast. Here we go. 5, 6, 7 ka, ka. We go 1, 2, 3, and 4, 5, and, 6, 7 and 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and a 7 ka ka to come up. All right, let's try that with music.

Whoo! All right, this is the very, very last part-- very exciting times. This gets a little bit tricky, but I'll explain it as best I can. We're going to take our time and we should be fine. This goes, and a 7 and 8. This part's OK. We're going to send this imaginary ball down into our body to initiate a body roll. 1, 2. And we flick that foot forward like kicking a soccer ball. 1, 2. We go, 3, like this.

So as I kick my right leg, I'm going to think forward and step behind. My right hand, after throwing, places down into the floor like this. Now, before I teach you the arms, let me teach you the legs because they're really easy. We just do Pas de Bourée. So we're going behind, side, front, behind, side, front, step-- like that. This is going, bom, bom, bom, bom, bom, bom, bom, like that. With counts. This is and 8, 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 5, and 6. So finish on the 6 and you should be OK.

Now, the arms. This is an exercise used to teach waving, so the articulation of the arms when using wave technique. We go hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, shoulder, elbow, wrist. And at the end, we're going to flick and roll the hand. Now, in the exercise to improve your wave technique, you just keep doing this isolation over, and over, and over until it's so in your muscle memory that you can speed it up. And then, eventually, it gets really fast and then that's how you create a wave illusion.

So what we're going to do is when we set this Pas de Bourée-- this goes 3 and elbow 4, shoulder and opposite shoulder 5, elbow and wrist 6, and then, just like we explained before, we flick this hand. My right leg is going to go whoo to overstep to the side. We go here. Ba boom. We're going to come up, ka, like that. Now, like I said, the coordination here is very tricky, but really good for your brain. Nice to have new pathways and give you a new skill.

So the Pas de Bourée-- behind, step, step, behind step, step, step with the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. All of that together from here, ka. So this is, and 8, 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 5, and 6. We're going to hit ah, 7, 8. This texture is va-voom, like that. It goes, a one. I want you to imagine that there's strings on the inside of your hand to your knee, and it picks the knee up. Place it down. A 1. Come up really sharp. 2.

This is the very, very end. This goes, 3 and-- this is ticking technique, so you're going tsk tsk, like that, like a clock. 3 and, you go, 4 and to look at the hand. And you'll hear-- ba, ba, ba, ba, like that. So it goes bass, bass, bass, bass. And then a very funky guitar comes in and goes,

[vocalisations]

Exactly, like that. We get to hear. This goes, over and to grab it. There's three sounds there. Beh, neh, now. Beh neh now, like that. We grab the hand, or the arm, rather. We go, 6 and, go up up. We're going to crunch it down in, like that. I'm going to pop my right leg first, tic, my left leg, tic. And then I throw everything away-- boom, body roll. And then I fall forward. That goes into the chorus.

When you get to the chorus, it's party time. You do whatever style you like. Doesn't matter, as long as you're having a good time. OK? So when we get to there--

[vocalisations]

And then away we go, we just have a big old party. Well done! Let me explain that last part again. So we're going, from the and 8. So we're going 6, 7, and 8. We go, 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 5, and 6, ah 7, 8. A 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 5, and 6, and 7, 8 tee em, bah, bah-- like that. Let's go faster on tsk tsk from an 8. Ready? 5, 6, 7, and 8. 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 5, and 6. Ah, 7, 8. Ah 1, 2, 3, and 4, and

[vocalisations]

And then we're there. Guys, let's try it from here, from the top of our part two instructional video together. And then we'll go with the music, and then you're done. Whoo! Ready? 5, 6, 7, and 8. This goes, 1, 2, 3, and 4, 5, and 6, 7, and 8. Smooth. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and a 7 and 8. 1, 2, 3, and 4, and 5, and 6, ah 7, 8. A 1, 2, 3, and 4, and

[vocalisations]

And then were there! Yeah!

(SINGING) Watching the sunshine blaze the grey, I don't know why you wouldn't stay. You should come south of the river, where the loving is gold.

Guys, congratulations. You did it. You got through part one. You got through part two. Have you done the whole thing altogether? I hope so. It's a super fun song. A really fun style. If you found it challenging, please keep at it. The best way to get better at dancing is to practise and set yourself big, hard challenges, in my opinion, anyway. All right guys. Well done. Congratulations. I'll see you soon.
