Students and teachers

Literature and language arts (LALA) programs foster and support student literacy outcomes. NSW Premier's Challenges in debating, public speaking, reading and spelling, promote student participation and encourage young people to speak up with confidence while improving their literacy and communication skills.

Debating

Literature and language arts
Years 5 to 12
Debating develops essential skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, research, teamwork and active listening. Students represent their schools in state-wide competitions.

Public Speaking

Literature and language arts
Years 3 to 12
A series of public speaking programs, competitions and digital resources to develop student speech writing and oral presentation skills.

NSW Premier's Reading Challenge

Kindergarten to Year 9
The Premier’s Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for enjoyment and enrichment in students, and enable them to experience quality literature.

NSW Premier's Spelling Bee

Literature and language arts
Years 2 to 6
The Premier's Spelling Bee is a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage with and improve their spelling.
