Primary Aboriginal Dance Workshops

Region: Metro, Metro South and West, Metropolitan South, Regional North and West, Regional South, Rural North | Statewide
Years 3 to 6 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students

Students develop their cultural awareness and contemporary Aboriginal dance skills in a fun and engaging setting. During this one-day workshop, students work with industry professionals.

About the program

This is an exciting 1-day workshop for primary students (Years 3 to 6) who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and attend a NSW public school. The workshop is suitable for both experienced and non-experienced dancers.

In this workshop, students will explore contemporary Indigenous dance and movement. These energetic and engaging workshops are run by a team of experienced First Nations dance tutors in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit.

Dates and venues

Workshop cancellation due to flooding on the Mid-North Coast

Due to the significant weather conditions on the mid-north coast. The Arts Unit has cancelled the upcoming Primary Aboriginal Dance Workshops:

  • Wednesday 21 May at Tyalla Public School 
  • Thursday 22 May at South Grafton Public School

  • Tuesday 6 May – Buninyong Public School

Term 2, Week 3

  • Monday 12 May – Kimberwalli Centre (Whalan)
  • Wednesday 14 May – Glebe Public School
  • Thursday 15 May – Hayes Park Public School
  • Friday 16 May – Shoalhaven Heads Public School

Term 2, Week 4

  • Tuesday 20 May – Bowraville Central School
  • Wednesday 21 May – Tyalla Public School (cancelled)
  • Thursday 22 May – South Grafton Public School (cancelled)

Workshop information

  • Participation fee: $35.00 per student
  • Open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 3 to 6
  • Teachers are required to retain copies of the Authority to Film and Record form for each participating student.

Refund policy

If you are unable to attend the workshop, you have up to seven days to submit a refund request. Please email your request to [email protected]. Refunds will only be processed in cases of extenuating circumstances.

Attendance

The program starts at 9:30 am and concludes at 2:30 pm. Please note that this may mean your students will need to arrange alternate transport to and from school on this day in order to attend the full days workshop. Arriving late and leaving early is disruptive to the tutors and other students in the program.
