Ensembles

  • The Hunter Wind Ensemble is a regional wind band for public school students in Years 5 to 12 in the Regional North Directorate. The ensemble provides an engaging and supportive environment for talented musicians to develop their musical skills while performing some exciting wind band repertoire. Membership is open to all talented woodwind, brass and percussion players from local NSW government schools. Students attending NSW government primary and secondary schools from Years 6 to 11 are invited to apply for membership and audition.
  • Hunter Singers and Hunter Trebles is a vibrant regional choir organisation based in Newcastle that is dedicated to nurturing and developing young voices and promoting Australian choral music. It provides valuable musical opportunities for developing voices. The Hunter Singers feature students from public high schools (Years 7 to 12) in the Hunter region, while members of the Hunter Trebles (Years 4 to 6) are drawn from local public primary schools.
  • The Primary Wind Ensemble is for NSW public school primary students who currently do not have access, or have limited access (perhaps a very small or developing ensemble), to a band at their own school. The ensemble will target talent development for students from Years 3-6 who have had a minimum of 12 months of lessons and are familiar with the workings of their instruments. Students are expected to receive weekly lessons on their instruments, as they are expected to work on the ensemble music throughout the year. The Primary Wind Ensemble also includes selected High Potential and Gifted students from local public schools who are gifted musicians, acting as leaders and mentors for each section of the ensemble.
  • The Hunter Schools Art Collection is a collection of student artworks from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens for exhibition at selected Department of Education arts events in the Hunter. Artworks will be selected for the collection in Term 1 of each year and then exhibited at selected local arts events throughout the year. Events may include the Hunter Dance Festival, Hunter Drama Festival, Choralfest, Bandfest, Star Struck and the Hunter Ensembles Showcase.
