A two day accredited professional learning course aimed at developing skills in teaching dance and engaging students with additional learning needs. The program is open to teachers from both NSW public and non-government schools.

Sessions are facilitated by industry professionals and Department of Education teachers with specialised skills.

About the program

The D’Arts program is led by the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit in collaboration with industry professionals. This exciting program aims to develop student skills in movement and dancing, foster creativity, and support student wellbeing through the enjoyment of dance and movement. 

This two-day workshop for teachers will consist of seminars and practical dance and arts activities. Participants will engage in discussion and activities centred on developing knowledge and skills to respond to the individualised learning and support needs of students in the creative arts classroom. 

The program also provides opportunities for networking with other teachers to share experiences and access resources to improve planning creative movement and dance activities for students with disability.

Fees

This program is open to teachers from both NSW public and non-government schools. The participation fee for the two-day program:

NSW Public School teachers - $200.00
Non-Government School teachers - $500.00

Workshop overview

Sessions are facilitated by industry professionals and Department of Education teachers with specialised skills. Sessions will focus on:

  • engaging students through movement, music and drama
  • creating choreography for students
  • using non-verbal communication, focusing on empowering and teaching students through performance, movement and gesture
  • playbuilding and characterisation.

Registered professional learning hours

Completing the Disability Dance Teacher Workshop will contribute 10 hours of non registered Professional Learning addressing standards 1.5.2, 4.1.2 and 6.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation.
