Public speaking

Public speaking programs develop students' speech-writing and oral presentation skills. Students can participate in a range of competitions. Digital resources are also available to support students, including tips from previous winners.

Junior Secondary Speaking Award

Secondary students aged 14 or younger
Successful speakers progress through local, regional and state rounds where they deliver both prepared and impromptu speeches, with the state champion and runner-up representing NSW at a national final.

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition

Years 3 to 6
This competition encourages primary school students to explore ideas of multiculturalism in Australia while they practise their public speaking skills and improve their confidence.

Plain English Speaking Award

Secondary students aged 15 or older
The competition aims to encourage the use of clear and effective spoken English. Successful speakers progress through local, regional and state rounds where they deliver both prepared and impromptu speeches.

Poetry Slam

Program Drama Literature and language arts
Years 7 to 11

The Arts Unit’s Poetry Slam is a competition for individual students in Years 7 to 11 attending government secondary schools.
