Pulse Alive

Principal choir

The Pulse Alive team are seeking talented choristers from Years 5 to 12 in 2027 from NSW public schools to form the principal choir for Pulse Alive 2027.

How to apply

Nominations are now open for individual students to nominate for the principal choir in Pulse Alive 2027.

Please complete the principal choir nomination form by Friday 18 September 2026 (Term 3 Week 9).

Please note, this year all auditions for the principal choir will be live auditions. On the nomination form, you will be asked to preference which date you would like your audition to take place – either Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 October at The Arts Unit Lewisham. From this audition, the principal choir will be selected.

On whichever day you are allocated, you will need to arrive at 12 pm, and your live audition will take approximately one hour. At the live audition, students will be required to participate in a group part-singing workshop. Repertoire to prepare for this workshop will be emailed out once the nomination form has been completed.

We strongly encourage all students to attend the live audition if possible. An online audition option will be made available in exceptional circumstances. Information around making this request will be distributed via email once the nomination form has been completed.

Eligibility and selection

Nominations were open to students in Years 5 to 12 in 2027 who will be enrolled at a NSW public school.

The principal choir will provide the basis for the choral sound for the show.

Students applying to be part of the principal choir should be experienced at singing in ensembles and holding both basic and complex vocal parts within an ensemble setting.

Please note, this category is only open to individual performers. Students selected as members of the principal choir will not be able to participate with their school group in massed choir.

Successful students will require the endorsement of their school principal to participate. Students are encouraged to discuss their nomination with a teacher at their school prior to submission.

Students participating in this category will be supervised by members of the Pulse Alive team. Schools will not be expected to provide a teacher for the duty of care of these students.

If you have also applied in the category of principal vocalist for Pulse Alive 2027, you will automatically be considered in the principal choir audition process.

Commitment

Students selected as members of the principal choir must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates. A medical certificate must be supplied for each missed rehearsal; otherwise students will forfeit their place in the choir. No refunds of student resource fees will be given in this circumstance. Due to the limited number of rehearsals for the choir, any rehearsal missed due to illness (with a medical certificate) will need to result in the student's role in the ensemble being modified.

Students who are not available for all principal choir rehearsal and performance dates should consider participating in the massed choir with their school group, or as an individual chorister (massed choir) if their school group is not participating.

Costume

The performance clothes for the principal choir will be as follows:

  • Silver Pulse Alive t-shirt – this is the show t-shirt that is included within your student resource fee.
  • Long black pants – these will need to be supplied by students.
  • Black socks – these will need to be supplied by students.
  • Black shoes – these will need to be supplied by students.

Resource fee

There will be a resource fee of $240 per student (GST inclusive).

The resource fee assists with the costs involved in the conductors, choreographers and tutors working with the students, supports a number of music clearance costs and includes a Pulse Alive t-shirt, which will be worn by all performers as their costume during the event.

Principal choir will be required to pay the resource fee through The Arts Unit student payment portal on acceptance into the show.
