Baulkham Hills High School filmed their support unit students performing Tongan Welcome Song. They blend beautiful vocals with expressive sign language.

Their performance is a display of cultural appreciation and inclusivity, with students using sign language to convey the song's message of warmth and hospitality.

Music teacher Ms Jessie Zhang supports the students on guitar.

Eight students sit grouped around their teacher who is playing a guitar. They are singing and signing.

What did the teachers and students have to say?

  • ‘It is important for all students to have the opportunity to express music in every form, including through movement.’ – Ms Jessie Zhang (music teacher)
  • ‘Music is a great way for us all to communicate’ – Mrs Dearne Bennett (SLSO)
  • ‘That was fun!’ – Daniel (student, Year 10)
