Pambula Public School – Our Individuality Creates Beauty

Pambula Public School is located in the Bega Valley Shire on traditional Yuin land.

Students at Pambula Public School created a mosaic of a large tree (1.2 m x 1 m) with their handprints as unique flowers. Broken tiles were glued to a piece of timber, and coloured grout was used between the tiles.

The tree symbolises that while all students are individuals, they all contribute to something beautiful. It also represents that the uniqueness of each student is what brings beauty to the tree.

Our Individuality Creates Beauty – refer to the long text description that follows.

Our Individuality Creates Beauty – long text description

Our Individuality Creates Beauty is a large mosaic of a flowering tree set against a solid, dark blue background. The artwork is 1.2 metres tall by 1 metre wide.

The tree's trunk is composed of irregularly shaped pieces of tan, beige, purple, pink and grey tiles. The tree’s foliage, shaped like a cloud, is made up of similarly shaped tiles to the trunk in varying shades of green, blue, turquoise and yellow.

Among the foliage are the students’ ‘handprints’ made from translucent glass stones. Each of the 12 ‘handprints’ represents a unique flower in the tree. The palm of each hand uses the same colour combination of deep red and purple stones. The fingers of each hand use a different coloured stone to the fingers of the next hand. This creates a floral spread of colours in shades of red, yellow, purple, green and blue.
