Callaghan College Jesmond Senior Campus students created a video titled Charlie’s Crusade: A Tale of Courage and Cleanliness to explore the art form of cinema and its origins.

Inspired by silent film greats such as Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, they focused on writing the ultimate tale of the underdog. By researching and utilising traditional melodramatic characters and plot devices, as well as employing film techniques of the time, the students gained a new appreciation for the modern blockbuster by seeing where it all began.

In the film, we meet Charlie, the unsung hero, who embarks on a quest to save the school from the nefarious ambitions of the ultimate villain – the school principal, Miss Scott. With the help of his trusty sidekick and some legendary students, we follow Charlie on a hilarious journey to overcome evil and see good prevail.

A still taken from the black and white film, ‘Charlie’s Crusade’. A student is dressed as the Deputy Principal, Mr Ismay. He wears a suit, a fake moustache and sits at a desk answering the phone.

What did the teachers, parents and students have to say?
